ADVANCED Motion Controls supplies servo drives to ROBOSOFT for service robots

ADVANCED Motion Controls announces development efforts with Robosoft, located in Bidart, France, to produce a new standard in service robots. To date, Robosoft has uniquely created a multi-use hardware platform for remote service mobile robotic needs. The robuLAB series for example can be used for indoor security, medical assistance, assisted living or any other service need.

The hardware incorporates ADVANCED Motion Controls servo drives at the heart of the motion control. Robosoft’s robuBOX is a flexible software platform that is operationally ready to take on many tasks and can be quickly and safely tailored to fit the customer’s exact needs. With the combination of the Robosoft’s hardware and software, including ADVANCED Motion Controls DigiFlex Performance high power density servo drives, OEM’s and users can develop new robotic applications much faster than attempting full scale development.

One of the most amazing coming developments in aviation is the UAV - Unmanned Air Vehicle. These airplanes have no pilot on board - they are remote controlled. This means that the pilots who can fly them can perform much more violent maneuvers and send them into more dangerous situations than you could possibly risk with a human being on board. It also means that these airplanes can be any size. Some UAVs are as small as your fist.

Future soldiers will likely be issued small UAVs along with their rifles and other personal gear. Under fire, they’ll be able to launch these UAVs to spy on the enemy, jam radar and electronic surveillance, even deliver small bombs, all by remote control.

Wi-Fi Moves Into The Sensor Networking Realm

Rarely is Wi-Fi invoked within the context of wireless sensor networking or industrial process control,” observes Sam Lucero, ABI Research senior analyst. “Wi-Fi is considered too power-intensive as many sensors, actuators, and other devices require battery operation while deployed for several years at a time – whereas Wi-Fi is optimized for limited time usage: from a few hours to less than a full day.”

But a new transition peeks over the horizon, put forth by a company called GainSpan.

A Wi-Fi chipset company, GainSpan has developed various techniques that provide the battery life needed by sensor networks for Wi-Fi.
