In this article I would like to show you what kind of methods I’ve used to create my picture ’Autobot’. I always liked transformers, and the movie gave me a huge inspiration to build one. The car form of it is one of my recent car models, a 1975 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. I used 3D Studio Max 9 and Vray for modeling and rendering, the postworks were done with Photoshop.

  1. Hey, it looks great! I’m making a Autobot too, only it’s not a car but a beamer :P

    I’ve got one question:
How do you model the biped? I have a bit problems with it. When I move the leg or arm, all the other parts are not connected. So there is a gap between the upper arm/leg and the lower arm/leg.

    Can you help me?

    Daniel

  2. I forgot to post:

I like the music, what is the name?

And I posted a test version of my beamer:

  3. Well here is a tutorial about the character setup by using Biped. I hope you will like it but I personally like to work with bones as I have open option to tinker with them. Plus if you manage them once they are at full control. Anyway bipe is quick setup for human characters or human like characters. It has its pros and cons but I hope after going through this tutorial you will get the point. Here is the link:

  4. This is really cool and inspiring. How did you do the transformation animation?

  5. Its not difficult indeed!!!. If anyone of you have seen the TV Cartoon Series Beast Wars (3d Cartoons the continue the story of transformers [Optimus Prime n Megatron] Remember??). Know the basic technique is to take your parts one by one. Scale em down and then scale em up according to the scale that fits the car it self. You can get the idea from the animation movie above.

  6. Great work out there Daniel keep it up
